Quilt month and Jelly Roll Saturday

It was raining on Saturday. Yea for me, a whole day, some chocolate, and a Jelly Roll.

I almost never get a whole day to sew and even though I have a project on my cutting table that I should have been working on I decided to do a Jelly Roll quilt in honor of Jelly Roll Day. My family has a little quilting group and I thought the group was going to all do something but turns out this year I was the only one up to the challenge. I used a flannel jelly roll from Maywood Studio called Christmas Joys Flannel. 

 

First step was to sew the strips together. Second step cut them into 10 inch squares. Third put two squares together and sew on the one diagonal and cut them apart. Fourth was to now sew the squares together into 20 inch blocks. I got six blocks out of the Jelly Roll for a quilt 40 x 60. I added two 5 inch borders to the sides and one 5 inch and a 3 inch to the top and bottom for a finished size of 58x74. Finished the top Saturday ....Wahooo....quilted it today. The binding will have to wait for another day.

It is time to Sew

We have a little rain today. The weather is cooler. Summer is winding down. I like this time of year it brings a little slower pace and I can spend a little more time in the house puttering. 

I recently received Creative Grids Design wall fabric which I had ordered way back last spring. I wanted to make myself a design wall and sell the rest to anyone who was interested.

It is for sale on the Inchworm Fabric Site for $8.25 a yard and is 54" wide. I can't wait to give it a try. Now to find a wall that I can put it on. HA that is going to be a challenge as I have used all my wall space for stuff. Click on the picture to take you to the store.
 

 

There are some new pre-cuts (click pre-cuts to go to the store) for sale, some Halloween, Christmas and other fun designs. There also is a new selection of wide backs. Have a look there just might be something you want for a great price.

August came and went in a flash.

August wasn't as hot as July

Not much sewing going on here. I spent most of my free time this summer fixing our 24ft Nomad travel trailer. It had a few leaks over the winter so we redid windows and seams. I removed all the wallpaper and painted the walls and I laid down a new floor. I was going to really glamp it up but ended up buying a 5th wheel at an auction that is a couple of feet longer and has more room so this one is up for sale.

I am sad to sell this trailer, we have had some fun times and I have invested a lot of time fixing it up. Time for someone else to enjoy it.

 

It is amazing what 2 more feet can do and a couple of years newer. The 5th wheel needed a little TLC so we spent most of August working on it so that we could go camping at Wallowa Lake in Oregon over the Labor Day weekend. It was well worth the effort. The bed is much larger and the bathroom has room to move around in. I have closets bigger than the other one.

Hope everyone had an awesome Labor Day. I sure need  3 days of relaxing, my knees were killing me but are much better after not doing much all weekend.

July rolled in hot and rolled out hot

It has been one hot month

We usually don't have to turn air conditioning on till the end of August but we finally gave in and turned it on when the night temps didnt get below 70. Then last night and today we had some rain, if felt more like Texas than it did Washington. Needless to say I didn't do much quilting but I did get more fabric in the store.

The beginning of the month I did finish a flannel quilt with minky backing for my brother who is going through chemo and radiation. What do you think a bit much for July in Nevada but I loved the flannel fabric, maybe should have done something different than minky back but I wanted it to be soft. Winters coming right:)

Also at the beginning of the month, I did start another quilt that I have had on my cutting table off and on for months. I would get it out and ready to cut and would move if off because something else was more pressing. Put it back on the table, put it away. I think I did that a half a dozen times before I finally cut it up. The blocks got done but it was once again moved off the table and needs to be moved back on. Barb from Bejeweled quilts bought the same FQ bundle, Bella Mariposa from Robert Kaufman, and made a really cute jar quilt. Robert Kaufmans metallic fabrics are so irresistible and I usually cant resist. I just bought a layer cake Wildwood Grace, sooooo pretty.

Lets hope August is not so hot but Neil Diamond didn't sing Hot August night for nothing. Stay safe and quilt on.

What the heck it is JUNE already.

Crazy Temperature

We went from 96 degrees last week (a high this time of year by the way) to 55 today. I was wearing shorts and now I am in sweats and a sweatshirt. Crazy days.

I made this star red, white, and blue quilt out of 10" squares. You can find the pattern all over the internet free or design it your self. I wanted a little different look so I designed it myself. I had to make my own layer cake so I cut 10 inch squares out of 11 different fabrics so that I could get the design I wanted. I have them available in the store just click on the picture of the fabric.The first picture is the squares, the second is a quarter of the quilt laid out before it was sewn. The last is the picture of the finished top. I still need to decide on a border or no border.

I am thinking of using either of these 2 fabrics for the back. Also available in the store. Which would you use if it were you and would you do a border?

Update on the Row by Row
