New Baby

I haven't blogged since last Sunday, life is exciting. We had a new little boy added to our growing family of grand kids. I have been out of town helping the new mom and getting plenty of grandma time. I just love it. He was 4 weeks early but all is well, mom and baby are home and doing well. He weighed 5lbs 12oz. Small for our family who usually have 8lb babies but oh so cut.

Circle of Nine Book Reveiw

I just got this book in the mail yesterday. I was impressed by the cover so I ordered it and it lived up to my expectations. I love how simple the technique is and how all the quilts look so totally unique. Why didn't I think of that? It is totally awesome and I can't wait till I can make a quilt using their technique. Following is the review that comes with the book.

"This stunning yet simple setting produces quilts with original and creative design. Using simple quilt blocks and focus fabrics or block variations, the setting offers limitless creative and color possibilities. No two quilts will ever look alike even though they all use the same unique setting scheme.
• 24 quilts using the Circle of Nine setting
• Each quilt has a uniquely different look
• Fully illustrated instructions include sewing techniques that make the projects easy enough for a beginner to sew
• How-to section explaining the fundamentals of using the Circle of Nine setting so any quilter, from beginner to expert, can use the setting scheme to design a quilt using her favorite quilt block."

Baby Quilts from Panels

This first quilt is from a panel that I have in the Inchworm Store along with the borders and the back.(If you like you can hope over there and get one for yourself, I will even put together a kit for you.) It is for one of my daughters who is having a girl. You are going to get tired of me and my grandkids but they are the fun part of my life.

This second quilt is a flannel panel with a white minkie back. No quilting because I didn't want the minkie to stretch out of shape. So soft, I am sure my daughters baby will feel safe and warm wrapped up in it.

Babies are coming soon!

I have been keeping busy doing my taxes. I think I just about have them done and something else pops up that I forgot, so back to the drawing board. I guess if I weren't so cheap I would just get someone else to do them. Yesterday I had a doctors appointment out of town so when I got home I didn't feel like doing taxes so I worked on this little flannel blanket for one of my daughters who is having her first child a boy. I also got fabric to do a little girl one because one of my other daughters is having her 3rd a girl after 2 boys. They both are due in March. I have a baby quilt for each but I love these double flannel blankets because they work so nice when the weather is to warm for a quilt but we still have cool nights here and need something. Has anyone seen those little snuggle blankets that look like a cocoon? I think I would like to try my hand at making one of those. There is such cute fabric out there for baby stuff and I have a lot more time on my hands than I did when I was having kids. Lots of fun stuff to make.

February Give Away

I have been racking my brain for this months giveaway. I decided that most of us are still house bound because of the snow. What do you like to do when you can't get outside besides quilting (that is a given)? Well I like to read,(a good book is always welcome here), then maybe next would be crocheting and knitting. So the giveaway will be a book. All you have to do is go to my store and check out the books and let me know which one you would like. Leave a comment. If you feel like it you could tell me what you do when you aren't sewing. I will leave this open for a week and chose a winner next Saturday. I did get some new books that I just added to the store tonight.

Another Block Lotto

Here are some more blocks that I won. A couple of friends at work and I participate in the local quilt stores block lotto. I think I have won 3 times and I think we have been doing it for two years now. Doesn't seem like it has been that long but I won a Christmas one that I can't seem to find, hummmmmm, the orange one on the previous post, and this one. I have to tell you the story about the orange and pink one. My friend and I weren't particularly fond of that one and both hoped we wouldn't win. Well it was a couple of days after when the winner should have been drawn and we walked up to the store to get our new block and we commented on how neither one of us had been contacted, so we hadn't won, right. We walk in the door and the first thing they said was you won. Well I thought it was Judy and so I had this really big grin because we had just been talking about it. I turned to her and said congrats and then they said no not Judy but you. I was smiling but now for a different reason. Great right. Win some, lose some, depends on your perspective.
