Quick and Easy Grocery Tote

This fast fun and easy shopping bag takes about 30 minutes to make.

Supplies 

5/8 yard outer bag fabric

5/8 yard lining fabric

1 yard webbing

Cut (2) 21"x21" square from each fabric

 Lay right sides together the outer fabric and sew a seam around 3 sides. Then do the same for the lining fabric, except leave a 4" opening across bottom seam for turning. Cut a 3" square from both bottom corners of both the outer fabric and the lining fabric.

 Match side seam to bottom seam, right sides together and stitch across the corner. Do this with both corners of the outer fabric and both corners of the lining fabric.

 Fold the webbing in half and cut two handles. Mark 5" from the edge of the outer fabric and baste the handles to the right side with the handles facing down.

Sew the handles to the outer fabric like so. I surged the handles so they won't fray or you can melt them with a match.

Put the lining fabric inside the outer fabric with right sides together, with the webbing inside and sew all the way around the top matching the side seams. Turn the bag right side out through the opening in the lining and sew the opening closed.

 Top stitch around the top of the bag and it is finished. It is reversible depending on the fabric you use. I was thinking it would be fun to use heavier fabric like canvas or maybe upholstery fabric.

 I have done two. The second went together really fast. I put a box in it, to show how big it is. The finished size is 15" wide x 5 1/2" deep and 18" high. I surged the first bag to make sure it would stay together but the second I didn't because I wanted to see how long it would take a person who only had a sewing machine.

Pets on Quilts Show.....

Where is the summer going and why haven't I gotten anything done?

Where has the summer gone? The stores have school supplies already. I'm not ready for summer to be over. It has been a busy whirl wind here.... moving from one thing to another for the kids or work. Very little time has been spent quilting or sewing or crafting or cleaning or weeding or relaxing (that is what I need- relaxation).We have had some really great moments and lots of fun and I have finished a few things, nothing spectacular.

Here are the kids and a niece out mountain bike riding (we've only gone once this whole summer????? What??? Just too busy I guess.. it was a ton of fun!)

 

Here is a finished top I just finished- it was originally for my bed and it was out of stash fabrics. I wanted it just a little bigger, but I ran out of material and when I went to the stores to find, I could not find anymore. So this will have to do.

 

 

This is a project I'm starting- its for a lady that works for me who is retiring after 34 years!!! Wow! now I just have to get it done before she retires... Sept. 1st is my deadline, I'm not sure if I'm going to make it.

 

It is in this magazine. I just loved it... I love flowers and so does she.

 

Finally got the binding on this quilt for my cousin who graduated back in May.... slacker I know.

 

This quilt is pretty bright.

 

I am also working on the Sadona Star like my Mom, but I forgot to take pictures--- I will post some progress pictures soon (not that much progress is happening). It is a lot of fun and I'm learning a lot.

 

 

 

This is us at the Golden Spike while we were camping in Utah with the family. My camera was full and I got maybe 6 pictures of the whole week-- very sad indeed.

 

 

 

My brother and his family came to visit--- We had so much fun! Wish they would move closer to us.

Back Home and Busy

I haven't posted in over two weeks, not because I didn't have anything to say but because I didn't have anytime to say it in. I have been busyyyyyyyyyyyy.

Well camping was fun and it was so nice to have a week off but .............always there is a price to pay. Catching back up has taken a week. Catching back up on sleep, laundry, yard work, and of course there is all the stuff at work that I got behind on. I hate being behind it is to stressful especially after destressing for a week. Maybe a permanent vacation would solve the problem. lol, like that is going to happen.

I finsihed this quilt for my daughter before going camping but forgot to take a picture of the completed quilt. I was in a hurry to get things done, you know how that goes.

I also finsihed this quilt before I went camping but forgot or at least I can't find the picture of the completed quilt. It was to big for my quilt frame so I had to fold the side over and then take it off the frame and turn it around and pin it back on the frame to finish the sides. I gave it to a friend for their 50th wedding present.

I spent a couple of days cutting out heather feather applique pieces for my daughter for a quilt that we both are working on. I had hoped to get it done before camping but didn't make it, so I figured before I got going on new projects I would get them done and sent.

This is what I spent my Saturday doing. One of my daughters sister in law is getting married and asked if I could make her a dress. I feel like it was a marathon dress making day but it is completed except for the zipper and the handwork. I decided it wasn't wise to tackle a hidden zipper while I am tired so it is going to wait till Monday but I can check another item off my to do list and put it on the to done list.

Well there you go, my life in a nut shell or should I call it the nut house or call me a nut case. I commit to to much, maybe I need to be committed?

Count Down

It is countdown time. I have a week to get all the camping stuff together and the food and the activities. I am as excited as a kid before Christmas. I am so looking forward to spending time with all the grown adult kids and the grand kids. I have tons of projects that I want to finish and grass to mow and weeds to pull and berrys to pick. OH MY!!
Well I did get a quilt done for a granddaughter that graduated. Jennifer made the top and back and I quilted and bound it. Done, Done, DONE!!! One less thing to have to do before we go. YEA!!!!!

I tried free motion flowers. They look like a kid did them but I was getting better by the end. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT, RIGHT!!!!

One of my daughters lives in Starbuck WA which is close to Dayton WA and they had a car show this last weekend, so I went down Friday evening and Saturday my daughter and I along with a friend had a booth at the Farmers Market. I took my camera but forgot to take pictures. The market is in a perfect spot under the trees in the court yard of the historic railroad depot. Doesn't that look like a great place to spend the morning.

The Dayton Depot is the oldest surviving train depot in the state. It was originally built in 1881 and designed in the Stick/Eastlake style. The structure has been altered only slightly in over 125 years of its existence.The Depot Collection includes over 2,500 photographs from early settlement history that document county life from 1860-1950. They are all catalogued and available for research.
In addition, the Depot collects furniture from Baileysburg, Dayton's only furniture factory, memorabilia relating to local business and events, and objects and memorabilia from its Oregon Railroad and Navigation Co. and Union Pacific history. This is supplemented with clothing and artifacts from local pioneer families.
It has been beautifully restored and is now a museum. Revolving exhibits are featured in the upstairs gallery. The Dayton Depot is listed on the Local, State, and National Registers of Historic Places.

This little project is a snap sack

We are going to be camping in Utah with all the kids and grandkids which may be up to 32 people give or take. . Each family is in charge of a meal and an activity. Maybe even some home made ice cream and it isn't camping without a little dutch oven cooking.I am getting excited for the fun to begin
