The fabric collection that I used was Dotalicious by Island Batik and the pattern is Oklahoma Twister wall hanging that I designed. I used the Oklahoma twister pattern because once a twister hits you have to start all over again, thus the New Beginning. This wall hanging turned out to be 36X36.
I will give you a quick run down of how I made the block. I cut 16 five inch squares of the Dotalicious and 16 five inch squares of the black. I put them right sides together and sewed all the way around the 4 sides of the square and then cut diagonally through the squares from corner to corner both diagonals. Now there are 4 half square triangles from each square. These are now 3 1/4 inch squares. (I didn't square them up and wish I had. If I had they would have been 3 inch squares) Cut 20 black squares the size of the half square triangle 3 1/4 or 3 inch for each block or a total of 80. Lay it out as above, sew the squares together, and then the rows together. Then sew the four blocks together. Put a 2 inch border on and quilt it. If you look close you can see I quilted circles. I love the movement that it gave to the block.
Below is a list of the other Ambassadors that have projects for this blog hop. Island Batik is giving away 2 batik bundles so dont forget to go there and enter their raftercopter to win some beautiful fabrics. Friday, January 6 – Hop Introduction!
