Update on the Row by Row

Time sure flies when you are busy. We are doing a row by row using Lori Holt patterns. January and February got posted, here is March, April, and May.

My goal was to post more often

It looks like I have some work to do to reach that goal. Between working trying to get a little remodeling done and quilting, it seems like time just slips through my fingers.

Here are some of the rows from our row by row quilt along.

 I seem to have lost the other rows. Well I will add them when I find them.

Row by Row

    A New Year and a New Beginning

We see the new year as an opportunity to do all the projects we have been dreaming about. My sister Barb of Bejeweled quilts wanted to do a row by row quilt with the nieces so we are using the patterns from Lori Holts Farm Girl Vintage and Farm Girl Vintage 2. We can't share the patterns with you but you can purchase the book at the Inchworm Store. Just click on the book picture and it will take you to the store. If there are none left I will be glad to order one for you, just leave me a message.

This month we choose the Milk Can out of the first book. Rules are simple. 6 or 12 inch block, make your row how ever you want and how long you want. There are 7 of us and each will get a month to choose a block. If you want to follow along Barb at Bejeweled will start the month with the block of the month and I will finish up the month with the rows.

So far here are the finished blocks/rows for this month, still waiting for 2 more but the month is still young, haha.

SISTERS IN QUILTING

For many years now my sister, Jeanette, and I ,(Barb of  Bejeweled quilts), have been doing projects together.  Sometimes when she visits or most of the time, miles apart.

Jeanette had suggested that we do this quilt below.  It is called "Radiant" by Cozy Quilt Designs, Daniela Stout.

The fabrics used on both quilts are JAVA Batiks by Freshwater for Maywood Studios.

I purchased them from Jeanette's store, Inchworm Fabrics, of course, she can just go in there and pick and chose....what would it be like to have a fabric store in your own home?  There probably wouldn't be much fabric to sell...haha.  

 I do have to tell ya, I recently visited my sister and went crazy over her fabrics.  I ran downstairs to my husband and told him I was spending money....a lot of it.  What fun it was to search though all of the delicious fabrics.

We have another quilt that we did and will show that later.  We are also doing a row by row with her, her daughters, and another niece.  Jeanette has some talented daughters and not in just quilting.

I have to put my two cents in. Barb failed to mention that we did those quilts last summer and she was waiting for me to get mine completed so we could post. 

 

If you have read her blog today she mentioned to stay focused and she showed her Star of Bethlehem quilt block. 

 

Well I am working on a quilt with 9 of those Star of Bethlehem blocks. I got all the half square triangle blocks sewn and ironed but need to trim them up. Here is my test block that I made using scraps to see if my calculations were going to work out before I cut the fabric I was planning on using. I designed it to be made out of 1/2 square triangles and blocks. Easy chain piecing. If it works out good I will put the instructions on the blog.

But I quit for the day because I need to get inventory done so  I went to do that and Barb wanted to post but I told her that I needed to stay focused on inventory so she posted for us.

More Christmas Gifts

I thought I would show some non quilt gifts

I have talented sons and son-in-laws also. They are into wood working. My oldest son is remodeling his kitchen and making all the cabinets. I will have to post a picture when he gets it completed. He has been working for months on them and says he may be able to install them in March.

I talked my husband into making some Taylor's Clappers for gifts this year and I made a case for them.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

My oldest daughter who quilts, her husband was always giving her a hard time about how much time and money she spent and she was always lamenting that he needed a hobby. Well she got her wish, he has found one and now he spends time and money...haha.. careful what you wish for. Here are some band saw boxes that he made for gifts. He did such a fantastic job. They are solid pieces of wood glued together and then cut out to form the drawers. It is amazing what people have made. If you have never seen these before you will have to google them.

I love seeing the things that other people create. It makes me wish I could work with wood but everyone has their own talent and I will stick with the ones that I have.

Hope Your Christmas was Merry!

This has been a challenging year.

Christmas was peaceful and calm here at our house. Family came last weekend and stayed home today to enjoy their kids and their Christmas. Hope your day was what you planned and that your year is winding down and the next one is better.

My daughters were busy. Here are a few quilts that they made and gave this season.

Daughter #1 did these first two, along with a couple of other projects.

 

 

 

Daughter #2 did these next two quilts for presents for her in-laws. Everyone has been busy working hard and I am sure they are glad for another year to be over.

A couple of Christmas finishes.

Time waits for no man (or woman in this case)

It seems that even though I am working from home and should have a couple more hours added to my day since I am not driving to work, I should be getting lots done but I don't feel like I am. I keep getting distracted with cleaning, there is lots of years of accumulation that I have been donating or throwing away. It feels good to get some of the clutter gone.

 I did finish a quilt that I started for a Christmas present last year that got side lined when my husband ended up in the hospital with a broken hip. This is before it was quilted and I couldn't find the picture of the finished quilt. It has been sent on its way for Christmas. Feels good to be done. It is grey and teal with a little black and tan mixed in. I used the tube method for making the blocks. Fast and easy. I think the hardest part was putting the random blocks together to make a not so random design.

 

Barb at Bejeweled Quilts and I do a few projects together and we did a rail fence Christmas table runner. mine is the blue one and hers is the gold one. It is always fun to see our different takes on the same project.
