Christmas Panel & New Shelf!!!

In anticipation of mom making it to my place tomorrow, I finally finished the binding on the Star of Wonder panel by Nancy Halvorsen, that I got from her stash at Thanksgiving.

I was drooling all over it, so I think mom had pity and let me have it. I brought it home and decided to hand quilt it. Not the smartest idea I ever had... especially since those Santas I mentioned earlier this week have been put on hold while I was tatting up a storm. But it turned out great!

The best part, was that my husband got wrangled into helping me build the shelf in the picture. I always wanted one...even though I only have a few wall hangings. But now I might need to make a few more or find some really cute panels. Hmm...the ideas are already brewing.

Short Attention Span

Well, I am going to admit I have a short attention span (or finishing commitment issues!!!). At Thanksgiving mom mentioned that the sewing machine was humming...This was one of the few projects we started.

It is the Little Quilts2 Again! December Santa pattern from The Wooden Bear. We started 5 of these puppies, which all ended up at my house to be finished. (Why do I think..."yeah I can finish these".) I should have sent them home with someone else. I have yet to touch all but Melanie's which is the half finished one in the picture. I will admit I started hers as a trial run...(sorry Mel, I figured you wouldn't mind)..but now hers may be the only one that ever gets finished by Christmas. The guinea pig is not always out of luck I suppose. So what have I been up to....

Yes, you got it....tatting away. I decided to make ornaments for a few friends and neighbors. I have 4 done and 6 to go.... I hope to have them all done by the weekend. This tatting pattern is Kira's Star by Birgit Phelps.

I know I should be finishing those little Santas, but as you will probably find out sooner or later, I am the one daughter who would rather play with yarn and sticks or shuttles and string or a good cross stitch. Granted, I do quilt and sew, but why put awesome variegated thread or yarn on a quilt when it could be something very pretty all on it's own!!! (And yes it is also nice on quilts...)

Maybe when mom visits this weekend she could help finish a few Santas!

Giveaway Winner and Next Giveaway

Well this is a little late. My laptop computer died along with everything on it. The screen is black and no amount of resetting will resurect it. I do have a back up thumb drive but.....it has been awhile since I have backed it up. Oh woe is me what bad timing. Alas, all is not lost, we are not computer poor at this house. So the DH suggested I take one of the other computers and move it into the sewing room. It takes up a little more room than the laptop did but it will work in a pinch. Besides the files and my contacts this will work for now.

December's "It's a Family Affair"

I am the second daughter, fifth child of Jeanette, my name is Christine. I thought I would add some of my sewing projects so you all could see them.

Here are a few of my projects that I have finished in the past weeks.

 This is a fabric cover made for a large filing cabinet. I made this to cover the ugly metal cabinet, now it looks like a giant present sitting in my living room. Too bad it really isn't a cool present. :)

Here is an Advent calendar that I quilted at moms house and then finished at home. It was super easy and would be a really quick project if you don't quilt it first. It was fun to quilt on the machine but took me a while to get the hang of what I was doing, because it was my first time every quilting with a quilting machine.

These are some of the softies for the calendar. They are a little wrinkled after sitting in the pockets for a while.

A couple of finishes

 The one above is a paver quilt made by Beverly and I quilted it for her. It is a Christmas present, so I won't tell who it is for, won't want to ruin the surprise. The one below is my Feathered Christmas using the pattern by Cherry Blossoms. I quilted it yesterday and put the binding on tonight. I just love her designs. I need to get the wreath on the frame and finish it. I still have a couple of projects that I want to do but I have been working on my stitchery. I really wonder what I was thinking, it is taking me forever to get it done.

Count Down to Christmas

A couple of months ago I saw this cute board for counting down to Christmas. Everyday you got a piece of chocolate candy. So I bought them clear back in Sept. We finally got around to finishing them last week just in time to start the countdown. We made three of them- using different colors and paper.

Black one 

Red one- the background is a sheet of printed scrapbook paper.

The letters and numbers are white vinyl.

The kids help cut out paper and wrap the chocolates.

  This one was a little more creative in directions on how they hung the chocolates.

 They turned out cute and were easy.
