Curvalicious Quilts using Island Batiks

I went to Texas last month

Yes I know I told you last month but guess who lives in Texas? Barb of Bejeweled Quilts and she just so happens to be my sister. We got to spend a little time sewing and it was only a little. Well what to do, what to do with so little time. We thought and we thought and we thought. It had to be something fun, something cute and something we could do together.

This is what we came up with.
Little Miss Muffett sat on her Tuffet eating curds and whey. Along comes a quilter and sat down besider her and stole the Tuffet away.

You can find the pattern on the Crafttsy site. "Mini Tuffet Pinchsion" by Sew Colorful LLC, Sylvi Sealy It was so much fun to work together on these pin cushions. We made six (even with Barbs little grandson running around) which was all the supplies that we had bought at WalMart in the middle of the night. It wasn't exactly what was on the supply list but we made it work. For the larger tuffets we had to enlarge the pattern but it was fairly easy. It was an interesting pattern. It looked like a picket fence but when you sewed the points together it made it so it would fit around our round piece of foam. So simple and so cute. They were a lot of fun to make.

We decided that we would have a give away. Check out Barbs blog here Bejeweledquilts . I have a Red Tide charm pack from Island Batik and a spool of King Tut Variegated Quilting Thread #941. So leave a comment and let me know who your favorite sewing companion is.

  1. Jeanette, I wrote on Barb's post about how lucky she is to have a sister to sew with...you are the lucky sister too! The tuffets you two created are adorable and a wonderful way to use up scraps of favorite fabrics or batiks! Sadly, I sew alone. :( None of my friends share my love of sewing, although they do enjoy the gifts I make for them. I guess I'd have to say my music and podcasts are my best companions when it comes to sewing.

  2. My granddaughter, but our sewing time together is so limited. She is 8, and asked me last year for a sewing machine! That request melted my heart.

  3. Hmm...my best sewing companion is a crazy muse who keeps saying "what if you....." I listen a lot of the time and try the crazy (and sometimes brilliant) things that she suggests.
I have used that King Tut thread before and it is wonderful, as is the Island Batik fabric.

  4. My best sewing pal is my sister. She really doesn't sew but is there to give an opinion when I need it about anything from color to pattern. Thank goodness for cell phones and the ability to snap a picture.

  5. My favorite quilting companion is my friend In-law. My daughter's mother-in-law who is my best friend. We have so much fun quilting together. We have our own quilting fests and will sew all weekend and only go to bed when we are just too tired to sew anymore.

  6. Super creative idea! My quilty buddy is my 12 year old cat, Mary Alice. More affectionately know as The Quilt Inspector Kitty General - no quilt leaves or is used without her approval.

  11. My favorite sewing companion? Hmmm. It is hard to decide. I sew with some great friends, my daughters and daughter in law, but I think I would have to say my nearly 7 year old granddaughter. She just has such excitement.

  13. I mostly sew by myself or I get distracted. My sewing bestie moved to another Province last year but I do get together with a sewing group every week or so - it's fun to get inspired!

  14. I really enjoy sewing with my friend Christine. We haven't had time together in a while, so I miss it. I'm hoping we can get together during the summer, now that things are easing in her life. I'm so glad you had time to sew with Barb. There must have been lots of laughs.

  21. MMQ or the "Monday Morning quilters who meet at the Senior Center". Yes that is our real name..
MMQ is the approved shorthand. !2 of the neatest ladies that ever set at a sewing machine or picked up a pair of scissors , or knitting needles, or beads, or weaving or right now tatting.

  29. Great tuffet's! I like to sew alone, so my favorite quilting companion is my radio, or an audio book playing on the CD player. Sounds boring, but hours go by quickly! jadahlgr at yahoo dot com

  30. I don't have a sewing companion. When my sister comes for a visit or I go to MN to see her, we do like to craft. If there is any sewing involved, I am the sewist. I love the colorful tuffets.
