Granny Squares

Finally--- got my granny squares done... way too many interruptions. In the process I made some small ones for a wall hanging, which was what I was going to make in the first place, but I loved these squares so much that I kept on sewing.... 56 granny squares later this is what I have. I love how bright it is. Love it! I have a real hard time with the random and now I wish I would have planned it out instead of just sewing and sewing and sewing. Now I need to quilt-- I'm thinking a running stitch with different colors of embroidery floss?? what do you think?

I wish I would have seen this post on the moda bake shop for a granny square quilt-- life would have been so much easier. oh, well live and learn right.

Baby quilt- Hourglass

I've admired from afar the baby quilt that Allison (Cluck Cluck Sew) made. I thought it was adorable. I had a turnover package just calling my name-- actually my daughter had opened it and it was in the way so I thought hey that would make a great baby quilt for a little girl (which I need for a friend at work). So I cut out a bunch of plain white triangles (wish I had had a solid apricot or light blue or light green, use it or lose it!!). I sewed the triangles to the white triangles. Then I sewed two together diagonal twice and cut the squares down the middle of the seams and I had my hourglasses and randomly sewed them together--- I have a real hard time with random. I have a couple of other projects I'm working on that are random and it is killing me.... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh

so here it is. now I'm going to attempt to quilt it on my machine with a light green minkee on the back. I just love soft backs. Wish me luck-- I'm not sure how the minkee and I will get along... we will see I may end up sending it to Mom. Don't you just love my little helper!!!

I do like precuts though they seem terribly expensive so I generally look through the line and just purchase my favorites. Precuts are great for baby quilts though and I love them for that purpose, since I try to make a donation baby quilt each month.

The winner of the Starburst Pattern and the Fixion pen (which is great, just iron it and it disappears) is

The starburst is beautiful!!

Thanks for the chance to win. I have some pre-cuts my DD have me still waiting for that "special" project.

I watched the coolest video on a ruler from Studio 180. They have a number of great tools and boy do I love tricky tools. I am going to have to get me some of those rulers. Rapidfire Hunters Star, and Rapidfire Lemoyne Star. You should go check out the videos. This is one of their patterns. The ruler makes it so you dont have to do any y seams and everything pieces together perfectly. Such an awesome technique.

Elephant Parade

This is my current quilting project. Jennifer made this cute baby quilt using hearts for the elephants and a charm pack for the outside border. She backed it with cuddle fabric. I think it turned out very well. A quilt any baby would love to snuggle up in.

It was not without some frustration but what would life be without a few ups and downs. I have had it on my machine since the weekend. My machine was breaking the thread. I changed the tension, the needle, rethreaded, and reset the bobbin. Not sure why but I gave up and  took it off and I am going to finish the border with my regular sewing machine.

We have a pattern available if anyone is interested. I will make a kit available on Inchworm Fabrics.

Log Cabin

My Aunt Margaret is quilting my first log cabin and it happens to be her first time quilting a log cabin. She is doing a wonderful job. Please, take a minute and go over and look at the Average Quilter. Here is a picture of the quilt before I sent it (of the little one).

There are two- a small throw size and a large queen size. So far, she has the throw size almost done. I love it and I'm thinking I may have to make another log cabin... hum... after I finish some of the these other projects first.
